At the end of his extraordinary 87-year life, Heinrich Schütz produced his remarkable thirteen-movement tour de force, Der Schwanengesang, the swan song. In this work for two antiphonal choirs and instruments, Schütz encapsulates all he has learned from his own life’s work as well as from the fertile North German and Italian choral traditions that preceded him. With his use of contrasting textures and varied forces he demonstrates an amazing range of dramatic effects, taking us on a journey from human to ideal, temporal to ethereal and simple to grand. Concentus brings this long forgotten masterpiece, recently unearthed and published in 1985, to give Bay Area venues. Don’t miss this radiant work; choose your date and save it!
