Though related to the dramatic text-focused repertoire characteristic of the era, the music of Melchior Franck, Johannes Eccard and Andreas Raselius packs an almost word by word punch of its own. These composers uniquely interpret much smaller texts than do their contemporaries, and their works—theatrical tone paintings of short proverbial sayings—most resemble the madrigal style.
