Heinrich Schütz

Placing performers around the perimeter of the building, a young Heinrich Schütz paid homage to the antiphonal art’s Venetian roots with spectacular works for multiple choirs and lavish instrumental forces. These brilliant examples from Germany’s magnificent period of the colossal Baroque showcase Schütz’ fresh ideas and energetic talent with an astonishing early version of quadraphonic sound. The Choir is joined by the San Francisco Bach Choir Period Consort and soloists Jennifer and Cathleen Ellis, sopranos and Doron Sherwin, cornetto.
