J. S. Bach: Cantata 36, 104 & 196

Bach’s cantatas are small, elegant masterpieces. Tightly linked to biblical prose based on the church calendar, they display a brilliant mastery of the era’s dramatic text-centered compositional techniques. To open our 66th season, Concentus and our fine chamber orchestra present Cantata 36, Schwingt freudig euch empor, Cantata 104, Du Hirte Israel, höre, and Cantata 196, Der Herr denket an uns, along with selections from the Orchestral Suite in C Major, BWV 1066, and other works.
