Thomas Tallis—The Many Voices of an English Geniuswith the SFBC Period Consort and Trombone Choir
During the late 16th century, England's composers were separated from continental influence not only by geography but by intense political and religious unrest at home. As a result, English musical development deepened its own already distinctive direction. Our concert celebrates the genius of Thomas Tallis—a court and church musician under the tumultuous reigns of four successive monarchs—whose compelling choral repertoire is uniquely English with a remarkable harmonic vocabulary singularly his own. Join us in the brilliant acoustics of Trinity Episcopal Church for a performance of spectacular singing in the the round, including the ultimate work for multiple choirs, the 40–part Spem in alium! Tickets: $26 & $22; students: $15 |
