J.S. Bach Motets

We open the season with two double-choir settings of the text Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (Sing to the Lord a new song)-one by J.S. Bach, the other by the great early German baroque composer, Heinrich Schütz. These motets set the season's theme with a joyful message of hope and praise. Bach's setting is the centerpiece of our concert and is considered to be one of the high points of his choral writing with its unusually intricate fugue, canon and counterpoint. Also on the program are two of Bach's beautiful single-movement cantatas, Sei Lob und Preis mit Ehren, and O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht.
