Bach's unique musical family, this program will feature unknown and deeply profound music by Johann Ludwig Bach, the 'Meiningen Bach,' as well as rarely heard masterpieces by Johann Christoph Bach, Johann Michael Bach, Johann Bernhard Bach, Franz Tunder, Jacob Handl, and Dietrich Buxtehude. Early masterworks and villancicos from Spain and the New World - with the SFBC Period Orchestra
Our annual Christmas concert with candles, processions and joyful singing-in-the-round has become a San Francisco holiday tradition! This year we bring you Latin treasures from the Renaissance and baroque eras and explore the rich musical heritage of the Spanish-speaking countries. From ethereal masterworks of Victoria to lively villancicos de Navidad of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Chile, Cuba and Mexico, this vibrant program will certainly evoke the spirit of the season! From his stunning youthful cantata, Aus der Tiefe, BWV 131, to the brilliant motet Lobet dem Herrn, BWV 230, and the deeply personal motet Jesu, meine Freude, BWV 227, this program is a link to Bach's past and a joyous celebration of the breadth of human experience!
