Text: Conuidando esta la noche

Juan García de Zéspedes (c.1619–1678)

Original Text English Translation

Conuidando está la noche
aquí de múcicas varias.
Al recién nacido infante
canten tiernas alabanzas.

Ay que me abraso ay
diuino dueño ay
en la hermosura ay
de tus ojuelos ay.

Ay como llueven ay
ciendo luceros ay
rayos de gloria ay
rayos de fuego ay.

Ay que la gloria ay
del Portaliño ay
ya viste rayos ay
si arrojayalos ay.

Alegres quando festiuas
unas hermosas zagales
co nouidad entonaron
juguetes por la guaracha.

En la guarracha ay
le festinemos ay
mientras el Niño ay
se rinde al sueño ay.

Pero el chicote ay
a un mismo tiempo ay
llora y se ríe ay.
Que dos estremos ay.

Paz a los hombres ay
dan de los delos ay
a dios las gracias ay
porque callemos ay.
Sharing is the night,
Here with many songs.
To the newborn infant
sing ye tender praises.

Oh I embrace myself,
oh divine lord
in the beauty
of your eyes.

Oh how they pour
being the stars
rays of glory
rays of fire.

That the glory
of the little stable
is already dressed in rays
and He emits them.

Joyful and festive
beautiful young shepherds
with style intoned
verses for this guaracha

Through this guaracha
let's celebrate Him
while the child
surrenders to sleep.

But the boy
at the same time
cries and laughs.
What two extremes!

Peace to mankind
and thanks be
to the Lord
since we shut up!
