Part I
Elisabethae vero impletum
est tempus pariendi
et peperit filium
et vocabant eum nomine
patris sui Zachariam.
Et respondens mater eius dixit:
Nequaquam sed vocabitur Ioannes.
 
Part II
Innuebant autem patri eius,
quem vellet vocari eium.
Isque postulatis
tabellis scripsit dicens:
Ioannes est nomen eius,
Et admirati sunt universi,
et laudabant Deum.		  
Now Elisabeth's time came
that she should be delivered,
and she brought forth a son,
and they called him Zacharias,
after the name of his father.
And his mother responded and said:
Not so, he shall be called John.
 
 
And they made signs to his father,
how he would have him called.
He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying:
“His name is John.”
And they all marveled
and praised God.
